My Single people, this is your year to shine, however, shine your eye ooo.
BackStory
So, I saw a dating site advert on Instagram and out of boredom I decided to sign up, I didn’t expect to find my soulmate there, as you all know I am an old school traditional girl, the “see me, like me, be friends with me, get to know me and date me kind of girl“, but I also didn’t expect to be scammed. I felt it was a good way to meet new friends, see how the app works and also have fun exploring people’s profiles.
After Signing up, I noticed that virtually 80% of the guys on the app were just looking for a smash and run kind of girl (hookups). The pathetic ones were the ones not willing to pay for it, so they pretend not to be interested in hookups and rant about it on their bio, but after matching with them they keep pushing the conversation towards any sexually related topic and then wrap it up by saying “come see me in my house”. By the time you realise it, you have wasted two days or one week talking to a sexually frustrated idiot or probably a ritualist.
The remaining 20% of the app’s male population is shared between, bold cheaters (15%) who tell you bad things about their ex or current girlfriends or badmouth their ex-wife just to get a sympathy lay with you. The scammers were about (4%) and the good ones (1%), the sweet ones, who were honest about the fact that they just wanted to make friends, they boldly tell you about the awesome life they have, married or not, and you end up becoming good friends and with some intellectual assistants.
Main Gist
The scammers are the worst. Recently, I matched with this cute guy, and I am still left wondering if he is that cute lol (fine boy no go kill me). We got talking and the conversation was so cool, you could smell his intelligence, But he didn’t know I was way too smart for what he planned for me.
He spoke about a lot of things and found a way to chip that he had a family function in January and he would be arriving in Nigeria in January plus he would love to see me, this is supposed to reassure me of his committed interest in me and the reality of his existence. My first question was “why not spend Christmas with the family, since the event is in January” his simple answer was he was still working and had a deadline to meet. I said to myself, that was a possibility, and so I ignored the first red flag.
The conversation continued to flow and we talked about the fact that I like surprises and I guess that was what brought about his creative side. lol. He told me he was going shopping for his sisters and he would like to get something for me.. the Second flag “how can you be getting something for someone you barely know”. But the romantic in me would not let me have sense and rest. So I gave him my shoe and dress size pe, awoof no dey run belle.
The next day he sent me a shipping link http://airfreights.com.ng/ with a tracking number. You have to applaud the efforts, scamming has gone up to another level. My question was at that moment was, “why would you spend so much on shipping when you would also be arriving in a week or so?”. I opened the link and this is what bobo said he sent to me.
shey you guys don see say I don hammer like I am upgrading my iPhone X to iPhone 11. lool.
No message from the company to notify me that it has landed. nothing.
I was at work when I saw it and I was like wait even if you are rich, this is borderline ritualistic and kidnapping tendency, I replied to his message telling him that this was a splurge for someone you barely know. He said it was from his heart laugh wan kill me die and that’s when I knew I just had to share it with my gang. Pe see me see trouble oo. Na single I single, I no kill person.
Like only a greedy person would fall for such an ill attempt of a scam. Guess what anything thing I click, even if I put a fake tracking number it still shows me the same thing. They need training, truth.
Okay so in my office, we decided to probe further, so we called the customer care and they pointed out that their office is located in Abuja, however, they could ship to my house for a fee of 15k, 12k for the next day delivery or by road for 6k, but I would have to pay in advance. I told them I would pay on delivery (lool). They should deliver the Peruvian hair or the iPhone 11 and I would pay on delivery. The attendant cut the call angrily. I redialed and pleaded with them (jokingly) that I should send someone to pick up from their pick up point and maybe because of my well-spoken English the guy disconnected the call because he was torn between insulting me as they are used to or just letting things slide. After a few seconds, the number was disconnected.
My Advise
At that moment I wondered, how many single ladies must have fallen for this guy and many others like him. The scams for their money or their body. May God help single ladies/men out there.
This dating site stories eh, some people have the best of it and are lucky to find someone in it, as for some, they get burnt in it. It doesn’t mean you are less or it doesn’t mean you should sell yourself short. Just know that your time would come and people would also type “God when” in the comment section of your Instagram post. Just do you and continue to be the best version of yourself.
I have deleted all the dating apps on my phone, I was busy making jest of their profile and accent, but at this point, my information is important to me, my pictures could’ve been used for some illicit things, just as I suspect that the guy’s pictures were stolen.
Public notice to single ladies, if you want to go through the dating app, it is preferable to use a matchmaker. There are many matchmakers available ooo.
Don’t be too desperate and get scammed by scammers on online dating sites
Hmm. Thank God for common sense. Some people are easily carried away as per Hollywood and Nollywood stories.
Lol. All in the name of being woke. Ladies who would fall for this level of mediocrity are just greedy.
