DUPE
Dupe enters the boutique
“Thank God, I have been looking for you all day” dupe said while she reached for me and hugged Jumoke having a rush of relief, being able to see her in one piece.
Can someone just feel me in here, I am getting tired of all this emotional blast and I am about to lose my mind because I think I had lost my mind. Jumoke said
Alice held Jumoke’s hand while wiping tears away from her cheeks, noticing the atmosphere.
“What is going on?” Dupe asked with so much fear and worry laced in her tone.
“Jumoke came into the shop, I thought she remembered me and had gained her memory, but she confronted me about stealing her idea and other things, so I had no choice to call you so we can tell her what happened,” Alice Said trying and failing to control her tears.
“You had an accident but you can’t remember anything from the last 1 year. You were looking at this very store when you decided to browse through the room when a part of the ceiling fell on your head.”
Dupe looked at Alice, asking for moral support as she took the seat beside Jumoke. Alice nodded her head and that gave her all the courage she needed.
“The doctors said your injury would have been extensive if you hadn’t been pulled out of the building and rushed to the hospital on time. If it hadn’t for Bayo who didn’t wait for an ambulance and rushed you to the hospital in time.” Dupe continued
“Who is Bayo?” Jumoke asked and at that moment, dupe could not think of a suitable answer about Bayo’s identity.
“He was the one who pulled you away from the place, if he hadn’t been there, you could have lost your life,” Alice said and Dupe thought that was a better explanation than we could offer
Dupe watch Jumoke intensely trying to gauge her current state of mind, to know when to stop talking about the whole incident. Factually, she wasn’t ready to continue the statement.
“So how long has this been,” Jumoke asked amidst tears.
“It’s been almost two years now, you spent one year in a coma and well 10 months out of coma” Dupe answered
JUMOKE
Two years! Two years of my life went like that.
How did this happen, why did this happen to me? I could see Dupe and Alice trying to keep it together, it must have been very hard on them, more so they kept my dream alive. This is so bad.
The shop door opened and a familiar face stepped in.
“You,” I said, I was shocked because I had only dreamt of him every day for the last two weeks, I couldn’t tell dupe because she might think I was crazy. we were very close, like lovers. We talked about a lot of things, we hung out at the beach, freedom park, coffee shops. In my dreams, he was comfort, like a source of energy.
Seeing him, made me think I was crazy, dreaming or hallucinating
“Jumoke, do you remember me? Do you know who I am?” he rushed up to me with so much hope in his eyes.
I turned to face Alice and Dupe, they were both giving him a silent shake of the head, to imply no, she hasn’t gotten her memory back.
I saw as hope drained from his eyes and it was replaced by pain, anguish and anger.
What does he have to be angry about? I am the one who sees him in my dream and I am the one who lost two years of my life. Would it be weird to ask him how I come to see him in my dreams?
“Who are you, I saw you in my dream,” I asked him
“I am no one,” he said his tone laced with anger “you would just forget tomorrow again”
“What do you mean by that?” I asked confused by his statement.
“This is not the first time they explained this to you,” he said pacing the place looking like someone who was about to lose it. “You mostly forget everything the next day, you can’t remember all of your life before the accident and you cannot remember anything or keep any memory after that, so whatever we say to you today, you would forget by tomorrow morning.”
He turned angrily to face dupe “how did she get to roam about to this place. I thought we agreed to keep her away”
“Calm down, remember what happen the last time you met her and was all furious and sort” dupe said “she left without informing me” Dupe shot back at Bayo
“I was even worried, the fact for the past three weeks our routine had been changing was that not why I asked us to meet here today so I can fill you in on it” Dupe said looking at Alice Back up.
My head was beginning to spin and everything went black. When I woke up, they had all surrounded me, asking me if I was ok, Dupe was using files to fan me, Bayo was tapping my face and Alice just stood there shocked, I think.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,” I said trying to push them away and get on my feet
“Slowly stand up, don’t rush,” Bayo said supporting me up delicately
Alice got herself back, as she swiftly got me a glass of water. I gratefully accept it, because I felt parched.
“let’s get you back home shall we,” Dupe said holding my arm to lift me.
“I agree”, “make sense,” Bayo and Dupe said.
