We got home I just went to lie down. It was a lot for me to process. The fact that they said they had told me before and I couldn’t remember it was very puzzling.
Bayo and Alice Hung around the house till 9 PM. Dupe called in sick and didn’t go to work so she could stay with me. I hated the fact that I felt lost and I couldn’t put the pieces together. Not being able to remember my whole life, the relationships I had and the thought of this little glimpse would be gone by tomorrow was heart-wrenching.
Dupe opened the door while knocking softly
“I just wanted to check on you, how are you feeling?” dupe asked
“Honestly, it’s a lot to process.” I sat up straight “Bayo said I forget about everything in the morning, but it Is kind of strange, because, I remember everything since we go back from the hospital early this month. I remember each day. I remember three weeks ago when you told me about my fashion passion and my exhibition. I remember watching the show with you and us talking about my drawings”
I went to my drawer to pull out my sketchpad. “I remember you showing me my drawing book and I have been trying to draw new things since then. I wanted to get inspiration from the environment that’s why I took a walk and I remember taking walks like that many times, it was all so confusing and then I found that shop and I remembered my dreams and ambition for that shop and I also saw the dresses from my sketchbook there as well. I have been trying to find a meaning to it all.”
I went to my closet and opened it for her to see all the designs I had made.
“In the last three weeks ago, I started sewing, just remembered how to draft a pattern, cut and sew. It felt like a reflex to me, and I also watched some tutorials on YouTube to help me” I don’t have lots of clients, but a few I was selling it on Jumia”.
Dupe was there just looking shocked, I don’t know why I hid it from her, but I guess I was not trying to save myself the stress of defending my health as she had always told me to relax, be safe, not do anything. But ever since I found out what I could do, and the sewing machine I had in the house. I spent my whole day creating and selling. Dupe hasn’t said anything since I told her all this
“Say something please” I begged her because the wide eyes look on her face was beginning to throw me off. She didn’t say anything, she just hugged me and started crying, which made me cry as well.
After a few minutes of crying, we let go of each other.
“Get some rest, we can talk in the morning if there is anything to talk about,” Dupe said as she left my room
I guess she was still doubting the truth, I on the other hand didn’t want to sleep, for the fear that everything might become a dream or a memory tossed away as they said.
In other to make my memory a reality, I decided to write a note to myself. I pick up my sketch pad and pencil and thought of what to write to myself.
With fresh tears falling from my eyes, I began to write
Dear Jumoke,
It’s a beautiful morning. What you are about to read might be scary at first, but I want you to be brave and soak it all in.
You had an accident 2years ago, you were in a coma for 1 year and you have been out of a coma for 10 months.
You don’t remember anything after 24hours hence if you don’t know who you are I am about to tell you.
You are Jumoke Stewart Adeniji, you are 25 years old, you are a bundle of talent and you are amazing, your mum is late but your dad is a bundle of joy and you need to go see him, he sacrificed a lot, by letting you be where you are staying now because they said it is good for your health.
If you remember doing the NSFDW and the registration of your company, that’s a good start. But the problem is that didn’t happen a month ago, it happened 2 years ago. That program was 2 years ago.
Your best friend Dupe can fill in some of the blanks for you.
Your Financial partner (if you remember her) is helping you fulfil your dream by starting your fashion house for you. (If you can’t remember that as well ask Dupe, she would fill it in for you).
You are an amazing designer and sewing comes naturally to you. Try taking a spin with the sewing machine in the room opposite yours.
I still don’t know where to place Bayo, but he also feels safe. You have been dreaming of him for the past few weeks, so if you dreamt of him again, don’t worry, just tell him, I am beginning to worry it might be a memory.
Just don’t be scared okay.
And oh! You are growing famous. Lol.
If this note is all you remember for today, place it back to where you found it so it can help you tomorrow.
Finally, you might be wondering who wrote this note for you,
YOU WROTE IT FOR YOURSELF
I finishing writing and kept it in an envelope. Then I wrote “open me before anything” on the body and placed it on my bed stool.
After many fights with sleep, it took over me as well as the fear for tomorrow.
